Worldwide Make Music Day 2020
June 21 @ 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Erben Organ goes ONLINE for Worldwide Make Music Day 2020
This will be the third consecutive year Friends of the Erben Organ will participate in the worldwide Make Music Day on June 21, 2020. For the last two years, the Erben was the only pipe organ featured in performances in New York City. This year’s festival is all online due to the Coronavirus pandemic, however the organizers created a fantastic program of live performances, engaging music lessons and more, to reach an even greater audience. All events are FREE – we hope you enjoy them and see you online! We will also officially kick off our Erben Organ Days 2020 series and Pedals, Pipes & Peals music camp on this day.
FREO will participate in two live-streamed events on June 21, 2020:
A live-streamed organ and saxophone recital, featuring Jared Lamenzo and Eddie Barbash. Eddie Barbash plays American roots music on alto saxophone. He is a founding member of Jon Batiste Stay Human, the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
In this class, we will explore the different colors of the pipe organ on the bench, talk about how organs are built, and have an exclusive look inside the magnificent 1868 Henry Erben pipe organ, the size of a NYC townhouse! Basilica organist and music director Jared Lamenzo will introduce a piano student to the pipe organ in real-time, from the organ loft of the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Little Italy.
Erben Organ Days 2020 is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by LMCC
